KATHE KLOPP
Kathe was yet another AHS alumni (Class of 1964) with a flair
that was utilized in front of, and behind, the camera. For nearly
two decades Kathe was one of Hollywood’s most in demand
Set Decorators and Designers.
Kathe was born March 5, 1946 and quickly demonstrated her musical
and artistic talents. She played cello in the school orchestra,
but art was her passion. She could often be found sketching
in her notebook. This love led her eventually to become a Set
Designer for the long running CBS daytime drama The Young and
The Restless, which also stars Kate Linder (AHS 1965). From
there she moved into the field of motion pictures. Among her
more notable films for which she was Set Designer and/or Decorator
are Masters of the Universe (1987), Baja Oklahoma (1987), Split
Decisions (1988), Pet Sematary (1989), How I Got Into College
(1989), Frankie and Johnny (1991), Career Opportunities (1991),
Mr. Saturday Night (1992), The Program (1993), The Naked Gun
33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994), Under Siege 2: Dark Territory
(1995), Escape From L.A. (1996), My Giant (1998), My First Mister
(2001) and The Country Bears (2002).
Kathe was a member of both the International Alliance of Theatrical
Stage Employees (IATSE) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences (AMPAS), the folks that give out the Academy Awards!
In addition, she helped develop the Set Decorators Society of
America.
Sadly, after a long battle with cancer, Kathe passed away July
4, 2003 at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was
only 57.
